PARACHUTING at Summer Camp 2005
There will be an opportunity for you to make a parachute jump while we are at Rollestone Camp, Salisbury Plain on Summer Camp.
The options available to Officers, AIs and Cadets over 16 are:

  • One Static Line Jump ( with the option to do more jumps if there is time, weather and funds permitting) from 3000 ft.

  • Tandem Skydive (hooked up to a qualified instructor) from 10,000ft.

The cost at the present time, and for the foreseeable future, is £150 for the above courses. There will also be the opportunity to have various types of jumps filmed and photographed - this is likely to cost extra. Civilians attached to Suffolk ACF are also eligible to take advantage of these courses, but the cost will be £220.
Depending on the numbers involved, group discounts are available for both the Tandem and Static Line Courses.
Most activities are covered by the ACF Association Insurance Policy but, unfortunately, parachuting is not one of them. Therefore, there may be a extra cost involved.
The minimum age is 16 years and parental consent is required for 16 -18 year olds. The upper age limit varies depending on the type of jump, but anyone over 40 years old must have a medical declaration signed by their GP.
This is an excellent opportunity to experience a parachute jump, with your friends, on our doorstep at Camp and at a very cheap price.
If you are interested, give your name and details to your DC who will pass them on to County Headquarters.
GOOD JUMPING!
Col
Paul Denny, Commandant

In 1965, Col

It is with great pleasure that Suffolk Army Cadet Force welcomes Colonel Paul Long, OBE as Honorary Colonel. Colonel Long took post on 1 Sep 2004 .

Webmaster’s Wants and Wishes
Communication, Communication and Communication is our message!
If you have or receive some information or news that is worthy of wider distribution, consider an age-old military adage:
‘Who needs to know?’
Two chaps in Suffolk ACF should be at the top of your list: The County Press Officer, Lt
Barry Forster and the Webmaster,
Maj
John L Raybould TD webmaster@suffolkacf.fsnet.co.uk
By post, send your material to: Suffolk ACF, TA Centre, Yarmouth Road, Ipswich, IP1 4BH.

Our Suffolk ACF website now has over 100 pages and 250 photographs.

It is indeed an honour to manage the site but it's not a one-man-band (if you’ve ever heard me play the bugle, cymbals, fife, tuba or violin you will understand !)

Send your comments, criticisms, funnies, photographs, questions, reminiscences and suggestions to webmaster@suffolkacf.fsnet.co.uk
I can guarantee they will be published, subject to the rules of good taste and respect.

On sending photographs by e-mail, please limit the size and do not, as one well-meaning individual did, lock up my PC for 4 hours with a 6 Megabyte Powerpoint file!
The one photograph, a list of names and 2 graphics only totalled 400 Kilobytes, a mere 6% of the file submitted. If sent in an ordinary e-mail they could all have arrived in minutes! Do contact me for advice.

If your Coy or Detachment wish to open a website there is a clear Army Cadet Force Association ruling. Such sites must meet certain standards and, essentially, must portray the ACF in the ‘best light.’ Contact me for guidance.

Tony Pollard CB CBE DL.

Taking over from Maj Gen Jack Dye CBE MC DL in 1992, we thank Gen Tony for 12 years of unstinting support and enthusiasm.

In advance we also thank you for offering to host our County Cocktail party at your home in Jun 2005.

Heartstart is alive and thriving in Suffolk ACF. At Leek Camp 2004 we were once again visited by Jane Palmer, the regional co-ordinator who looks after all the schemes in the Eastern Region for the British Heart Foundation. Although she arrived in the middle of one of the heavier downpours it didn’t take long for the cadets to raise a big smile on her face as they tried to squeeze the ‘meat’ out of choking Charlie. Jane is always impressed by the enthusiasm and effort put in by the cadets she meets and by how much they enjoy the Emergency Life Support training with the kit donated by the BHF.
Even though it rained a lot at camp the sun certainly shone at the 2004 Suffolk Show and Heartstart Suffolk ACF made lots of new friends and showed a lot of people how easy it is to learn E.L.S.
Colin Elding, the Heartstart UK manager, escaped from the HQ in London along with Richard Vakis, the regional co-ordinator from Wales, to give us a hand on the first day of the show. Sgt Sarah Moyes and I were there for both days along with ‘Charlie’ and the ‘Little Annie’ family.
The first day we had a steady flow of people, mainly youngsters, asking about the dummies and trying out CPR. On day two, the world and his mother seemed to turn up. We had whole families on the floor practising the recovery position and doing things with ‘Charlie’. Sarah was in grave danger of losing her voice and just as she thought she had time for a break up came another group. The handouts disappeared as fast as we filled the display stands and in the end we just put the piles on a table.
As usual we have been to various community groups and Youth Organisations to show them the skills needed to save life and spread the word about Suffolk ACF.
