COMMANDANT’S COLUMN

Welcome to this edition of the Suffolk Cadet.
Looking back over the last six months, I realize how busy everyone has been and you know what, it’s going to continue!
Celebrations marking the 60th. Anniversary of the end of World War II kept everyone busy in July, and in some cases August too. It was good to be involved in these events and also have the opportunity of talking with the Veterans. I hope that we all now have a better understanding of the part played by Suffolk servicemen and women between 1939 and 1945.
Salisbury Plain tested each and every-one of us at Camp-whether Cadet or Instructor-we observed how others react to difficult circumstances and perhaps more importantly, learnt something about ourselves. The trick now is to remember and learn from these experiences. It was by all accounts an excellent Camp.

The Suffolk girls team won the ACF National Tug of War Championship and the swimmers are going to great lengths (excuse the pun) to add laurels to the County’s achievements.
I am delighted to draw you attention to the following Cadets for their achievements:
Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Sarah Revell (Felixstowe Detachment) on her appointment.
Cadet Staff Sergeant Luke Harris (Bury St. Edmunds Detachment) who was awarded the Brook Stick for 2005. Both were duly marked on the final parade at Rollestone - congratulations to each of them.
Finally, as the year draws to a close, I take this opportunity to wish you and your families, ‘Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.’
