Welcome to this
edition of Suffolk Cadet.
The annual detachment Inspection season is well advanced
and I see all the reports when they are returned to County
Headquarters to enable me to add my comments before they
are sent on to HQ 49 Brigade for the Commander to read and
make his comments too.
Two things stand out from the reports I have seen to date.
First, the sheer diversity of activities that cadets are
involved in within the community : collections made on
behalf of the RBL Poppy Day, Marie Curie Cancer Relief,
Alexander Rose Day on behalf of SSAFA ( not forgetting the
sponsored events for them too) and the participation in
the Band Concert at St Joseph’s College, Ipswich, in aid
of The Army Benevolent Fund, to name but a few. All of
these activities underline the ACF commitment to the
community and help to boost the image of cadets and raise
awareness of our organisation. Well done everyone.
Secondly, I have noted that recruiting has gone
particularly well in many detachments and this is very
good news for all of us.
I am delighted to bring to your attention Tom Tica
and Jamie Dines
(Ipswich Guards) who have proved to be the two most
outstanding middle and long distance athletes in Eastern
Region. They came 1st and 2nd in the Regional Cross
Country Championships in March and were selected to
represent the Region at the National Championships in
which Jamie came first in the Senior Boys’ Race. You may
have seen his photograph and interview in the Spring ‘Army
Cadet’. Tom gained a Bronze Medal.
 Jamie Dines, Tahnee
Hearn and David
Mills (Ipswich Grenadier Guards) were
selected to represent Eastern Region at the National
Athletics in Jun 06 at Grantham.
Our Girls Tug of War Team, 2005 National Champions, will
again be competing at the National Championships in York
in July.
Congratulations to them all.
The Open Evening at the TA Centre, Ipswich, 24 June 2006,
gave cadets and Adult Instructors the opportunity to meet
Civic and Community Leaders from the county and to
demonstrate their skills and talk about life in the ACF.
Last but not least, camp at Sennelager, Germany, is
literally the chance of a lifetime,
Funding has been withdrawn for future overseas camps so
2006 will be the only opportunity the county will have to
go overseas. We will make the most of it.
More details about Camp 2006 and other events appear
elsewhere in the magazine.
