Suffolk Army Cadet Force
C Coy Ex MEDIVAC
Jun 2005

The weekend consisted of:
Parade 2000 hrs Fri 10th Ipswich TAC
Coach to STANTA training area, ETA 1000 hrs Sat
Deploy to harbour area.

Recruits with the C Coy CSM, SSI Mal Anderson, completed their Recruit Fieldcraft phase from the C Coy Recruit Cadre held on 4/5 Jun.
1 Stars were taken away by Mr Ralph Girling, SIs Ian Partridge, Mo Frampton and SI Mark Hazell.
2 + 3 Stars were moved into their harbour area under control of SSI Lee Cramsie, SIs Pete Fowler and Luca Miceli. The 2/3 stars were the Fighting Platoon, split into 3 sections.

During Sat 11th the 2/3 Stars were issued 3 sets of orders and took out 3 patrols each. They had to attend and action 3 casualty scenarios.

  1. Downed Pilot (Cadet dressed as a Pilot - complete with parachute harness) bailed out from plane and injured. The patrol had to locate the Pilot, administer emergency first aid and carry the pilot 1.5 km back to Coy HQ.

  2. Crashed Vehicle - Crashed Landrover with two casualties one dead, the other with head and back injuries. Administer emergency first aid and extract back 1 km to Coy HQ.

  3. Section ambush - Section caught in ambush, extract casualties with various injuries back c 1.5 km to Coy HQ.

The Cadets were on the go from 0700 hrs to 2200 hrs. Section Commanders were issued 3 sets of full orders covering the above. They had to extract, write and give formal orders to their sections, rehearse their sections then move out on the mission. They led their sections to the objective, controlling their sections throughout the mission.

On Sun 12th, Sections were issued formal orders to move to an area believed to be an Enemy prisoner of war camp. The prisoners (our cadets) were believed to have been badly treated, malnourished and some tortured, so they would be in a bad way. The patrol had to attack the position, capture or destroy the Enemy, Secure the Area, Administer emergency first aid and extract the casualties back 1 km to Coy HQ.

The Casualties (1 stars) were made up to look the part and all gave an Oscar winning performance, as the pictures will indicate.

The mission was carried out and completed with full success.

Lunch was had at Coy HQ, weapons were cleaned and kit packed.

We then had a stretcher race where a mix of all star levels was made into teams of 8. They had to carry a stretcher loaded with two full jerry cans of water (to simulate a body) over a demanding course. The course was c 500m long, over rough ground, under and over cut trees. All teams had to work hard together, sharing the load and encouraging each other in order to obtain a good time. The average time was 6.5 minutes to complete the course. It was hard work but all teams worked very well together and enjoyed the competition.

A good weekend, one of which will be run every year by C Coy Suffolk ACF.
We now look forward to the Parade at Bury St Edmunds in July and then Annual Camp at Rollestone.
