On Sun 19 Mar 06 at
Suffolk ACF HQ, Ipswich, the annual SACF inter-coy 1st Aid
Competition was contested.
Sadly, no team from C Coy was available and so missed an
eventful day.
Each team consisted of 4 cadets: No 1 (Team Leader) , No 2
(main 1st Aider) , No 3 (1st Aider Asst) and No 4
(Reserve).
The day started with 2 diagnostic tests. First, No 1 and
No 2 attended to a casualty, with angina, having a heart
attack .
The No 3 and No 4 casualty had diabetes. The idea was to
diagnose the condition of the casualty through
questioning. No actual first
aid needed to be carried out.
The 2nd part was the team contest for 3 cadets (the
reserve observed). The scenario was a skateboarder had
collided with a
pedestrian. The skateboarder had a dislocated kneecap,
abrasions to his hand and a fractured jaw. The pedestrian
had 3 fractured ribs
and a sprained ankle. Both were in shock. 10 minutes were
allowed to deal with the situation.
The last part was an individual test: No 1 and 2 dealt
with a casualty with cerebral compression and No 3 and 4
with a cadet who had
fainted.

The teams were :
No 1
No 2

The presentation of medals was by Deputy Commandant Lt Col
Kelvin Ives.
The next stage is the Brigade Competition on Sun 25
Jun 06 at Waterbeach, Cambs.
SSI John Stewart
County First Aid Trg Offr Webmaster comment: Well done
everyone and not forgetting the assessing adults, the
vehicle drivers and escorts, without whom the competition
could not have taken place. Good luck at Waterbeach.
