Suffolk Army Cadet Force
Reception at Ipswich TAC
Sat 24 Jun 2006
Set One

A new initiative for 2006 was the hosting of a evening Reception at County HQ, Ipswich TAC, on Sat 24 Jun 06, where there were Stands and Exhibitions manned by Adults and Cadets. Notable Suffolk Civic and Military personalities were invited to attend and learn what we are about.

The initial brief was that SACF Adult hosts would be in Service Dress.
(In 1997 the Webmaster discovered the occurrence of an inexplicable 4'' shrinkage in the waist of his Service Dress, carefully stored for 7 years in a wardrobe. This must have been a phenomenon of global warming or the dry summer because Bill Holden MBE (a Royal Norfolk D-Day Veteran) reported a similar problem. In an invitation to a CVHQ RA (Central Volunteer HQ Royal Artillery) dinner in the magnificent RA Mess at Woolwich, was a mention of the preference for our wearing Mess Kit. It added ‘but black tie is acceptable where significant shrinkage has occurred.’ and another invitation stated ‘where moths have installed air conditioning .....

In late Oct 05 a rumour was going about that the Service Dress requirement had been binned in favour of 'Combat 95'.
In Mar 06, to the relief of many, this was confirmed !

Have other readers noticed this shrinkage enigma ?)
