Col
Paul Denny assumed the appointment as Suffolk ACF
Commandant in 2003 after a long career in the Regular
Army.
Following Boy Service he joined the Royal Norfolk Regt
from the Depot at Britannia Barracks in 1958 and subsequently
re-badged, on amalgamation, to The East Anglian then The
Royal Anglian Regiments. He also served in the Parachute Regt.
The paths of this webmaster and Col Paul first crossed in
the 1980s when he ran the Army Training Team in Norfolk.
Almost 20 years later, in 2003, this webmaster asked Col Paul if he
could join Suffolk ACF.
After an informal interview, the proposal was accepted.
Right,
Col Paul at Thetford Weekend Training Centre, Jan 2004.
Col
Paul is an avid, but very select, collector of militaria
and his knowledge of military, and, in particular, The Suffolk Regt is profound.
After retiring from The Regular Army he became Suffolk ACF CEO (County
Executive Officer) in 1990 then Deputy Commandant in 1999.
Along the way, apart from regularly jumping out of perfectly sound
aeroplanes into his 60s, he was appointed, in 1990, by St James'
Palace as a Yeoman of the Queens Bodyguard of the Yeomen
of the Guard (not to be confused with Yeomen Warders,
commonly known as 'Beefeaters' who feed the
ravens).
Colonel, may your tenure of
office be enjoyable, the challenges surmountable and the
memories memorable. PS Colonel, what was that tale I heard about
your shoes .. errr ... or lack of .. in the 1950s ?
