'We
took the Tug of war teams to the Regional Championships
and I have to say that the results were very good.
During the heats, the boys squad came away with 3 points
winning 1 pull 2-1, losing 1 pull 1-2 and 1 pull 0-2. This
was a very good achievement as they are a young squad with
only 2 members having any experience and due to the weight
restrictions we were unable to utilise this. Even with the
lack of experience, the boys came 3rd, being beaten only
by Leicester & Northants and Norfolk who had quite a
lot of experience and some luck.
The girl’s squad did a lot better, coming first in the
league, winning 2 pulls 2-0 and drawing 2 pulls 1-1. It
was starting to look good for the current Regional and
National champions. Having half the team with 2 years
experience the newer members of the squad soon started to
follow suit and we started giving everyone a lesson in the
sport, even to the point of some counties copying our
style. Our luck came to an end when, in the final against
Leicester & Northants, in the middle of the athletics
arena, we were beaten 2-0. However this did not dampen our
spirits as we are still the current National Champions and
we will be attending the Nationals on 15 Jul at Strensall
in Yorkshire.
With a bit of luck the boy’s squad will also be invited
to attend the 2006 National Championships.
Some points that we noted as needing to sort are the
boots; if anyone has any old Ammo boots or old
Rollerblades then if you would like to donate them we will
be able to improve our chances of winning again and
hopefully in the future go on to bigger and better things
with both squads.
If anyone is interested in taking part or donating any kit
then please contact SI T Willoughby or SSI P Fowler
through C Coy HQ.'

For
the 1st time ever the Webmaster's long-suffering wife,
Janine, of 39 yrs (40 on 27 Dec 06 - so send her a
sympathy card !) accompanied me to an ACF event - the
May 06 E Regional Athletics & ToW Championships at
Lincoln.
Her endurance of my being away 'playing
soldiers' goes back to 1968 when I was OC Luanshya CCF in
Zambia, followed by TA service 1973-1999 with 6 R Anglian then Watchkeeping with 19 Inf / Mech Bde and 3 Operational
Tours in Bosnia.
Then came a period with 'another UK
County ACF' before service commenced in 2004 with Suffolk ACF, the latter both as
Webmaster / PRO / PMC Offrs Mess.
Janine took a book to Lincoln, anticipating sitting in the
car for hours, but once the ToW started she was
hooked.
At the end of the meeting she was asked to present some
very special 'TWAT' medals (left) to the Suffolk ACF
Teams (ah - 'Tug of War
Attack Trg Squad').
All other engagements are now cancelled and a logistic
exercise has been planned (I was once SO2 Log Ops in
Bosnia !) to ensure she and I can attend the National
ToW in Strensall on 15 Jul.
We will be there see our
SACF Girls Tow Team aim to retain their title as 'National
Champions'.
