SUFFOLK CADETS WIN AN EASTERN REGION CADET FORCE COMPETITION

Stanford Battle Training Area in Norfolk is the venue for a keenly contested Annual ‘Combat Cadet’ Competition.

Over the weekend 16th -18th April 2004, in weather conditions ranging from warm and sunny to wet and cold, 180 Cadets, male and female, from 20 County Army Cadet Force and school Combined Cadet Force teams competed in this prestigious event.

The Cadets came from all over the 49 (East) Brigade area, from Essex to Derbyshire.

It is organised by the Cadet Training Teams from the Region, staffed by Regular Army soldiers.

Commencing on Friday evening it was non-stop until noon on Sunday. The Military Skills and Night Navigation phases were marked on accuracy while the 2.6 miles Speed March and Assault Course phases were timed.

Suffolk ACF were represented by B Company with Cadets from the Beccles, Bungay and South Lowestoft Detachments: Corporals Jamie Cleveland (i/c), Sam Faulkner (2i/c) and Sam Warburton; Lance Corporals Ryan Forwood, Lee Harvey, Matthew Porter and Matthew Smith, Cadets Shaun Rowse and Daniel Sword.

They were trained over several weekends by Regimental Sergeant Major Alan Barnard, Company Sergeant Major Mark Galley and 2nd Lt George Haldenby.

The Suffolk team won the Champions Shield for the 2.6 miles March and Assault Course competition.

The Suffolk ACF Team Trainer, RSM Alan Barnard, said: ‘'We are enormously proud of our Cadets. It was an outstanding performance by the Suffolk Team and a just reward for their dedication, enthusiasm and grit.’
