Stanford
Battle Training Area in Norfolk is the venue for a
keenly contested Annual ‘Combat Cadet’ Competition.
Over the weekend 16th -18th April
2004, in weather conditions ranging from warm and sunny
to wet and cold, 180 Cadets, male and female, from 20
County Army Cadet Force and school Combined Cadet Force
teams competed in this prestigious event.
The Cadets came from all over the
49 (East) Brigade area, from Essex to Derbyshire.
It is organised by the Cadet
Training Teams from the Region, staffed by Regular Army
soldiers.
Commencing on Friday evening it
was non-stop until noon on Sunday. The Military Skills
and Night Navigation phases were marked on accuracy
while the 2.6 miles Speed March and Assault Course
phases were timed.
Suffolk ACF were represented by B
Company with Cadets from the Beccles, Bungay and South
Lowestoft Detachments: Corporals Jamie
Cleveland (i/c), Sam Faulkner
(2i/c) and Sam Warburton;
Lance Corporals Ryan Forwood,
Lee Harvey, Matthew Porter and Matthew Smith, Cadets
Shaun Rowse and
Daniel Sword.
They were trained over several weekends by
Regimental Sergeant Major Alan Barnard,
Company Sergeant Major Mark Galley
and 2nd Lt George Haldenby.
The Suffolk team won the Champions
Shield for the 2.6 miles March and Assault Course
competition.
The Suffolk
ACF Team Trainer, RSM Alan
Barnard, said: ‘'We are enormously proud of
our Cadets. It was an outstanding performance by the
Suffolk Team and a just reward for their dedication,
enthusiasm and grit.’ |
