SUFFOLK ARMY CADET WINS COVETED AWARD 2006

Cadet Sgt Ben Veasy-Lark, aged 17, from Beccles (R Anglian) Det, B Coy, Suffolk ACF, has been awarded the unique Brooks Stick for 2006.
Presented annually to the most outstanding Cadet in Suffolk, it is named in honour of Col RW Brooks OBE who gave 44 yrs of service to Suffolk ACF and was Commandant 1935-1947.
C Coy also nominated an exceptional candidate for interview by a panel of senior officers. Ben was unaware he had won until the last day of Annual Camp at Sennelager in Germany at the County Parade.
A Cadet since 2002, Ben represented Suffolk in the 49 Bde Rifle Shooting section match and won a Gold Medal. The senior cadet in Beccles Det he has been awarded his Four Star badge and completed a Master Cadet Course at Frimley Park.
He is a competition-winning angler and a keen shot at game, clay pigeon and target shooting with a variety of weapons.
Since leaving school in 2005 Ben has worked at Angling Direct Suffolk, a fishing tackle shop in Beccles. After completing a retail management course he plans to start a plastering apprenticeship and then set up his own business.
His Beccles Det Comd, SMI Mark Galley, said: 'Ben has been an outstanding Cadet. This is a most well deserved award in recognition of his achievements and the example he sets.'
